The Great Ecstasy of Woodcarver Steiner

This is an early documentary by Werner Herzog, which my friend Ben Gleitzman told me about. It is marvelous, and you should watch it. Ecstasy is almost never discussed anymore, but leaving the earth is one way of attaining it. To exchange ecstasy for death is often the bargain.

  1. This was the first Herzog film I ever saw, back in the 70s . . . he’s never stopped amazing and delighting.
