Fareed Zakaria: Palin Is Ready? Please..
Zakaria suggests she might announce she wants to "spend more time with her family." Has a presidential candidate ever announced a new running mate this late in the game? If not, there's always a first time! The plot thickens.

Arguably, she could have a job where she could do even more damage:

Amy | October 2, 2008 2:28 PMPalin, being the VP candidate is so much LESS dangerous to the dountry than Barack Obama who has never been responsible for anything larger than the local ACORN chapter in Chicago. But of course this writer is looking at the race from an entirely different point of view.
mike | October 9, 2008 3:36 PMGloria Steinem in an article in the New York magazine said 'To have someone who looks like us and behaves like them is worse than having no one at all.'
lois | October 10, 2008 12:44 PMFor Mike :: So consider this bit of experience, Obama has been running the largest, most effective, best organized Presidential campaign in history -- and he's been doing an amazing job at it.
And by the way, he's also winning.
If he runs the country with even a fraction of the discipline, inclusiveness, and inspiration that characterizes his campaign then there just might be hope for cleaning up Bush's mess after all.
Bob Baxley | October 14, 2008 11:07 PMI read this same article when it came out and I totally agree. If the McCain/Palin ticket wins, I'll be very afraid.
Rolando | October 18, 2008 11:45 AMI think Mccain does not really want to be Vice President. He cannot handle the pressure or live with his own consciousness - therefore he is plotting his own demise. Once he realized the futility of nation, there is not way he can just pull a white flag.
I came into this election unbiased and now changed. I hope and want to believe that Obama will do great things. He is taking days off to spend time with his ailing grandmother. She is his inspiration to do the right thing.
Will Tran | October 21, 2008 12:16 AMI was surprised to run across your feelings regarding Palin. I must agree with you. I am not understanding how people can say that she would make a great VP and would be knowledgeable taking over as President if need be. This would be a big mess.
Barbara Fletcher | October 29, 2008 6:16 PMHow naive! Obama, while PERHAPS not a Marxist, is certainly an authoritarian. He indeed has run a campaign that was extremely well disciplined. One would dare not step out of line, lest he or she be banished and become an un-person. My fear for his presidency is that same Non Inclusive discipline. Who will be the first into the Gulags?

McGovern replaced Eagleton as running mate, but that was in early August. FiveThirtyEight argues persuasively that McCain is stuck with Palin.
But VPs have often been replaced after the election. If a McCain/Palin ticket did get in after all, I hope that would happen. Cite family concerns / legal brouhaha over TrooperGate and give her a job where she can do less damage, like an ambassadorship to Russia or something.
