PSA: Do not call Registry

  • Go to the Do Not Call Registry
  • Enter your phone number and email address. You can enter up to three. Include your cell phone, since a couple weeks ago the law changed and all cell phone numbers were also released into the telemarketing jungle.
  • Click on the link in the email they send you (one for each number).
  • You are now on the Do Not Call list, and can report any telemarketers with impunity any telemarketers who dare interrupt your dinner.

We got on the DNC registry when we moved back to the mainland a year ago. (Oddly, telemarketers didn't call our West Indian number even though it was part of the North American calling plan or whatever it's called.) But now that AT&T has taken over SBC here in California, we're suddenly getting telemarketing calls from THEM! Shouldn't that be doubly illegal? Being spammed by one's own phone provider?!

See the 'Snopes' coverage about this.

My mom sent me information about this. It had me worried, then my fiance' did the Snopes investigation and calmed my fears. Nothing to worry about, hoax, really.

Phew. Sign up your home phone thought!

Unfortunately, cell phones in Canada are not immune -- I've gotten many telemarketing calls on my Canadian cell phone, as well as sometimes hourly advertising SMS's!! Stewart even called the cell company to get his SMS turned off, but they wouldn't do it, infuriating.

I wish they had the email version of this. No one calls me at home to market me much product, it's a once or twice a year thing. However, in my Gmail account, it's got so much spam!
