I ran into my pal Quentin Hardy at the Web 2.0 Conference last October, and he recommended a bunch of books. I haven't read any of them yet, but I just found the list I wrote down back then:
- Disappearing through the Skylight
by O.B. Hardison, Jr.
- Imagined Communities
by Benedict Anderson
- The Essential Drucker
by Peter Drucker
- 1491: New Revelations of the Americas before Columbus
by Charles Mann
There is also a note to check CD Baby for the Live from Iraq Rap Album.

benedict anderson is great, i used to cite this (1996!) interview a lot.. here're some other online articles by him:
-From Miracle to Crash
-Democratic Fatalism in South East Asia Today
-Western Nationalism and Eastern Nationalism
-Cacique Democracy in the Philippines: Origins and Dreams
...which reminds me that i've been meaning to get his NLR articles on jos rizal for awhile :P
peter drucker is pretty great too, btw! "the age of social transformation" might even be considered 'seminal' :D cf. "the wealth of networks" and "social capital and community governance"
