Mulligan's Stew
  • It only took 6 days and 9 phonecalls to get the internet connection restored at our house. We are so relieved that it is on again.
  • After a year, Sylloge is back up again at its old address, inspired mostly by the new version of Blogger, which looks really lovely, has a raft of new features and appears to be as easy to use as before. Bravo Blogger!

  • I've been reading a lot of Lacan and psychoanalytic feminist film theory lately, neither of which really lend themselves to blog entries.
  • Let us hope and pray that Gloria Macapagal Arroyo gets re-elected in the Philippines.

It's interesting that when people speak, it's usually not their own fixed image or through their own eyes, but through an imagined image of characters they've seen in life. Children really are no different, and I've wondered if it's truly seeing themselves in the mirror that causes a creation of the ego, or could it start earlier if a child sees his or her ownself through the eyes of their father who he/she mimics, then through the eyes of their mother who he/she mimics and then realizes that the two images he/she's created are different? I am currently restraining myself from posting on Lacan's notion of language acquisition occuring only through attaining self image first.

You're a much stronger soul than I. Six days with no internet hookup, and you'd find me in the corner of my living room, rocking in the fetal position and mumbling incoherently.

Have you seen Rain and/or Angela? Two fantastic flicks with younger female protagonists. Both very interesting watches.
