More than 1600 gay couples have been married in San Francisco since Thursday, and apparently there's a line around the block. The first couple to be married in San Francisco, Phyllis Lyon, 80 and Del Martin, 83, have been together for 51 years and founded the nation's first lesbian organization, the Daughters of Bilitis, in 1955.

Anyone who stays together in love for fifty years desrves to be married. Anyone who wants to commit to one another for life -- more power to them.
It's the casual, individualistic, consumerist attitude toward marriage that's its greatest threat, not homosexuals. My fellow churchy types are way off-base, if you ask me. But no one asks me.
Besides, as I joke with my fundamentalist friends, if God-fearing Christians are against gay sex, they should let gays get married and that will put an end to the sex. My fundamentalist friends never find that as funny as I do.
Cody | February 18, 2004 10:04 AMI work hard all day long and at the end of the day I am tired. Trying to imagine that I would make time to make life difficult for gay people to marry boggles my mind. Why don't thease assholes who are upset about it do something about the heteros who divorce every ten minutes.
Fritz Decat | February 18, 2004 6:24 PMI think it is wrong and everyone who is that way will be judged by GOD for his or her actions.

leanne | February 23, 2004 1:20 PMGod didn't intend for two people of the same sex to be wed and have "affiliations" with one another. If same sex marriage is fine, then how about people that are Mormons? Or people that want to marry their brothers or sisters? Is that fine?
Tyler | May 3, 2004 12:58 PMI think this is fine...who ever is in love deserves to have a right to get married. And if bush and other poop heads think this is bad then they are discrimitive
